Orange County Arts Commission <br /> June 12, 2023 Minutes <br /> Attendees: Anita Mills, Pres, John Claude Bemis, Lindsay Metivier, Fred Joiner,Josh Rosenstein, Saba Jordan, <br /> Linda Williamson, Sec, Krista Bremer, Crystal Wu, Vice Chair, Katie Murray, Denise Duffy, Gideon Young, Marc <br /> Miller <br /> Absent:Sean Bailey, <br /> Meeting Location: Peel Gallery, 708 W. Rosemary St, Carrboro, NC <br /> 1. Call to Order at 6:40 by Anita Miller after brief introductions <br /> 2. Katie welcomed our new advisory board members: <br /> a. Gideon Young <br /> b. Marc Miller <br /> 3. Crystal moved that April 2023 Board Minutes be approved, and Lindsey seconded.All approved. <br /> 4. Board updates Katie Murray <br /> a. Updates <br /> i. Jenny Schultz-Thomas—appointment should move forward at the June 2023 BOCC meeting <br /> since policy was approved. <br /> ii. Sadie Allen, UNC liaison nomination, will also go to June meeting <br /> b. Board Orientation late July—TBD <br /> 5. FY23-24 Grants Cycle Katie Murray <br /> a. FY24 Funding- "outside agency" funds that were provided last year and this year have been reduced <br /> due to county decisions so total grant budget is$74,000.The Board's understanding is that Kidzoo will <br /> be funded with these removed funds directly by outside agency without any grant review process. <br /> Motion to prepare a draft letter to BOCC to express our concern over the funding changes for arts <br /> organization was seconded and approved. <br /> b. Multicultural requirement will be harder to reach this year due to money's going to staffing and the lack <br /> of multicultural arts organizations. Good volume of multicultural artists, but not organization. <br /> c. Panel Dates: <br /> i. Literary Arts: Wed.July 19, 6-9pm at the EAM <br /> ii. Visual Arts: Wed.,July 26 &Thurs.,July 27; 6-9pm at the EAM <br /> iii. Performing Arts:Tuesday Aug I &Wed Aug 2; 6-9pm at the EAM <br /> iv. Financial—Josh, Mark, Denise & Linda TBD <br /> d. Guest panelists—Katie will review applications to determine the best specialties for the guest panelists. <br /> 6. Director's Report Katie Murray <br /> a. Uproar presentation—Katie reviewed Uproar plans.Asked all board members to put 7/14 and 8/12 on <br /> their calendars for the opening and closing events. <br /> b. Upcoming events <br /> i. Weave &Spin featuring Ross White on Wednesday <br /> ii. Juneteenth: Portraits of Freedom on Saturday, 2-6pm in partnership with Renee Price and a lot <br /> of other sponsors. <br /> c. Community Dark Room—Katie asked for board input regarding a community dark room. Equipment <br /> donated from the Arts Center, and we are lined up to move it to the Eno Mill. Katie is now questioning <br /> whether we should really commit resources to this space vs other arts need. Board thought Katie <br /> should move forward with getting equipment and storing it since there is a need for this type of space in <br /> community. <br /> d. Office of Equity& Human Rights mural/Juneteenth -- Katie was informed that there is a second County <br /> Juneteenth program going on in Hillsborough earlier in the day than the arts related one we are assisting <br />
