Orange County Arts Commission
June 13, 2022 Minutes
Attendees: Fred Joiner, Chair, Linda Williamson, Sec, Mark Bettger, Krista Bremer,
Hannah Fatool, Saba Jordan, Lindsay Metivier (phone), Marlon Torres, Crystal Wu, and
Katie Murray
1) Meeting called to order by Fred Joiner at -6:35
2) Approval of April 2022 Board Minutes
Motion: Crystal and Second: Hannah
All approved.
3) Board member updates Katie Murray
a) Welcome Saba Jordan as our newest board meeting.
b) Reviewed new board member from UNC who will be replacing Hannah — Tori
Danielik
c) Updated board regarding Orange County Visitor's Bureau board position —
critical to have a representative from our board serving as a liaison.
4) Director's Report Katie Murray
• Staffing update — plan is to have Jen starting as full time in July. She will
be serving in a much needed grants and Eno Mill operations role. Funds
from the American Recovery bill, Big Night In, and other donations will
cover the additional staffing costs.
• Eno Mill Update — first year operational, but lost 5 months due to Covid,
upfitting, etc. Space is supposed to be self-sustaining. Orange County
pays the rents initially, and then the Orange County Arts Alliance settles at
end of the year. This first year will see about $20K loss.
• Camps - started today. 1St one sold out. Next two didn't get enough
enrollment so had to cancel. Experience to date has been harder to get
middle school age enrollment. Younger children filling up more quickly.
Discussion about how other arts camps are working and what kind of
enrollments they are seeing. COVID issues still prevalent with teachers
having to canceled, kids not wanting to wear masks, etc.
• July's show: Building Bridges —An Exhibition of Latin-American Artists in
the Triangle. Invite list of 8 artist to participate in the show and an open
call. For the opening — duo performing, food trucks.
• Eno Mill will have new art tenants (outside of our space/rent) — Chamber
Orchestra of the Triangle will start renting a rehearsal space. Bull City
