<br />¦ Decrease in the household's income <br />¦ Fuel supply is exhausted or terminated <br />¦ Notice has been received notifying household of termination of <br />heating/cooling source <br />¦ Outside temperature is severe; or the 2 to 3 day forecast predicts severe <br />temperatures <br />¦ The heating or cooling source is in need of repair <br />¦ Lack of a heating or cooling source places someone's life at risk (infant, <br />young child, disabled or elderly person, or household member who is ill and <br />susceptible to a health- related emergency if heating or cooling needs are not <br />met) <br />? Program Update: Eligibility criteria, which are set by the state, remain the <br />same although there has been an increase in the annual maximum household <br />benefit from $300 to $600. These are 100% federal funds and must be used <br />for heating and cooling crises. <br />Benefit Level: $300 per application and $600 per household per year <br />2. Temporary Assistance for Needy Families-Emergency Assistance <br />(TANF-EA) - provides assistance to families primarily for utilities and <br />housing needs. Funds can also be used for transportation, and medical <br />services. <br />? Program Update: Eligibility remains the same but families are limited to $100 <br />instead of the previous $200 in any six-month period. All recipients are <br />referred for financial counseling and must have met with a financial counselor <br />prior to applying for assistance a second time within a twelve-month period. <br />Program Eligibility <br />¦ Families must meet an income test (200% of poverty and asset limit of <br />$3000) <br />¦ Families must include at least one child under the age of 18 who lives with a <br />specified relative (includes parents, blood, half blood, step or adoptive <br />relatives up to 2nd cousins) <br />¦ Families must be involved in an emergency situation, e.g. catastrophic illness, <br />natural or man-made disaster <br />¦ There must be destitution of needy child/family; loss of supporting relative, <br />child at risk of removal from home or return to home of a child may create an <br />emergency <br />Benefit Level: $100 per household per year <br />(Must be used within a 30-day period) <br />2
