<br /> Chair Bedford asked if the Back to Work grants are funded through Article 46.
<br /> President Buxton said that was correct.
<br /> Commissioner Fowler asked if the $250 in CEED grants is given to students per
<br /> semester.
<br /> President Buxton said the tuition is covered, and then the student receives an additional
<br /> grant up to $250 for books, materials, or transportation costs.
<br /> President Buxton compared the budget request vs. the amount recommended by the
<br /> County Manager. He asked that the Board find increased funding for the college, if possible.
<br /> Commissioner Fowler asked for clarification on the college liaisons.
<br /> President Buxton said that the college has one liaison funded by Orange County, and
<br /> funds a second Orange County liaison with other operational funds.
<br /> Chair Bedford asked who they liaisons are working with and where they are located.
<br /> President Buxton said they are working with students in the high schools to register
<br /> students for classes at Durham Tech. He described their activities in the schools.
<br /> Commissioner McKee asked how much one liaison costs.
<br /> President Buxton said $91,649.
<br /> Commissioner McKee clarified that the increase needed to meet the continuation needs
<br /> of Durham Tech is $44,379, with an additional $91,649 for a liaison.
<br /> President Buxton said yes.
<br /> Commissioner Carter asked if the request is for a sworn officer for second shift and if the
<br /> college has a sworn officer for first shift.
<br /> President Buxton said yes.
<br /> Commissioner Carter asked about their shifts.
<br /> Jackie Krohn said it was 3 — 11 pm.
<br /> Chair Bedford asked how many days the small business is staffed in Orange County.
<br /> President Buxton said they are split between Orange and Durham counties, but he did
<br /> not know the exact split.
