1 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: June 17, 2025 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. 4-a <br /> SUBJECT: Proclamation Honoring Jason Johnson as the 2025 Wells Fargo North Carolina <br /> Principal of the Year <br /> DEPARTMENT: Board of County <br /> Commissioners <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> Proclamation Jamezetta Bedford, Chair, Board of <br /> County Commissioners, 919-245- <br /> 2130 <br /> PURPOSE: To approve a proclamation honoring Jason Johnson as the 2025 Wells Fargo North <br /> Carolina Principal of the Year. <br /> BACKGROUND: Principal Jason Johnson of Orange High School was named the 2025 Wells <br /> Fargo North Carolina Principal of the Year. Principal Johnson was also named the Orange County <br /> Schools Principal of the Year in 2010 and 2024. North Carolina has recognized outstanding <br /> principals through its Principal of the Year program since the 1980s, helping promote the <br /> profession through advocacy and support while recognizing principals who are implementing best <br /> practices in schools across North Carolina. Johnson will spend the 2025-26 school year traveling <br /> the state as an ambassador for the profession. The NC Principal of the Year serves in an advisory <br /> capacity to the North Carolina State Board of Education for a two-year term and also serves on <br /> the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Public School Forum. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact applicable to consideration of the attached <br /> proclamation. <br /> ALIGNMENT WITH STRATEGIC PLAN: This item supports: <br /> • GOAL 5: PUBLIC EDUCATION/LEARNING COMMUNITY <br /> OBJECTIVE 1. Foster collaborative relationships with formal and informal educational <br /> organizations and agencies to provide opportunities for community members to meet, <br /> connect, and learn together. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve the proclamation <br /> and authorize the Chair to sign. <br />
