40 <br /> Background/ History <br /> In 2022, Solid Waste Management was tasked with hiring a consulting <br /> firm to create a Solid Waste Plan that would lead to the county having <br /> an effective Zero Waste Plan . <br /> Solid Waste Management Department contracted with Gershman , <br /> Brickner & Bratton <br /> Inc. (GBB) to create the Plan <br /> Eight project goals were established to guide the County's Zero Waste efforts: <br /> • Goal #1 — Develop a comprehensive and easily understandable plan <br /> • Goal #2 — Develop a comprehensive strategy that will lead to "Zero Waste," by 2045, as defined by the County. <br /> • Goal #3 — Integrate the Plan's efforts with the ongoing climate action plans of the County <br /> • Goal #4 — Select a sustainable business model <br /> • Goal #5 — Identify future programs, initiatives, facilities, and infrastructure to achieve the Zero Waste goal, <br /> • Goal #6 — Identify strategies to increase public education and participation in waste reduction and waste diversion <br /> • Goal #7 -Develop and include an equitable, comprehensive public engagement process <br /> • Goal #8 — Ensure all proposed programs and policies are in regulatory compliance <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> 4 NORTH CAROLINA <br />
