Orange County Advisory Board on Aging <br />Tuesday, April 8, 1 – 3 pm <br />Seymour Center and Virtually <br />Minutes <br />In Attendance: Jackie Podger, Jeff Charles, Jerry Gregory, Ann Bradford, Jon Wilner, Rachel <br />Bearman, Sandy Walker, Joanne Wilson, Sheila Evans; Guest(s): Rafael Velez; Staff: Janice <br />Tyler, Marilyn Hohl; Absent without Notice: Daniel Leonard; Absent with notice: GiGi <br />Rashdi, Vibeke Talley <br />1. Welcome <br />2. Introductions and Announcements <br />3.Presentation by the Orange County Tax Administrator – County Property Tax <br />Reevaluation <br />•Janice shared the County Manager budget will be presented on May 6. The <br />tax rate will be set for Orange County on June 17. <br />4.Approval of Minutes – March 11, 2025. Minutes were approved. <br />Director’s Report <br />5.Aging Well Together Radio show wins Southern Gerontology Society’s Media Award <br />•The award pool consists of 14 states. <br />6.Fit Lot Construction has begun <br />•$20,000 of equipment has been stolen- Canopy, fasteners, screws, etc., <br />construction has been paused. An insurance claim is being made. <br />7.Serving our unsheltered community at the Seymour Center <br />•SORAD support has improved the situation at Seymour. <br />8.Dismantling of the Administration for Community Living <br />•There are currently unknowns regarding federal funding- about 42% of our <br />budget. <br />9.Kick-off of the All Ages All Stages Multi-Sector Aging Plan Implementation <br />10.Staff Updates – Seymour Center Evening Part-time Facility Assistant <br />Vacant- DME Program Assistant <br />New Communications Intern – Parker Perry, UNC student <br />Vacant- Aging Transitions/Volunteer Connect 55+ Specialist. Will determine rehiring <br />timeline when the budget is known. <br />11. Upcoming Events – Read Endless Possibilities for a full listing of programs. Below are <br />some highlights: <br />a. Shred and Meds Disposal – Monday, April 7 from 9 – noon at Seymour Center and <br />Tuesday, April 8, 9-noon at Passmore Center. Great turnout even with rain! <br />b. Med Assist Event with Alliance Health, April 11 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Seymour Center
