<br /> Town of Chapel Hill(the portion located in the County)had an estimated population of 60,375, the Town
<br /> of Carrboro had an estimated population of 21,319,the Town of Hillsborough had an estimated population
<br /> of 9,996 and the City of Mebane(the portion located in the County)had a population of 3,944.

<br /> Commercial,Industrial and Institutional Profile
<br /> The County's economy is characterized by a high degree of institutional and public-sector activity,
<br /> plus office, commercial and service-oriented business. According to the Orange County Economic
<br /> Development Commission, the leading industries in the County are educational services, healthcare and
<br /> social assistance,retail trade,accommodation and food services,professional and scientific services,public
<br /> administration,other services,construction and administrative and waste management. The County's most
<br /> common occupations, according to the Orange County Economic Development Commission, are
<br /> professional, education and health care occupations (50%), service occupations(18%) and manufacturing,
<br /> construction,transportation and warehousing occupations (13%).
<br /> The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and UNC Health Care System,both located in the
<br /> Town of Chapel Hill, are the largest employers in the County. As of June 30, 2024, they employed
<br /> approximately 13,938 and 14,316 employees, respectively. Established in 1789, The University of North
<br /> Carolina at Chapel Hill occupies 729 acres in the County and had an enrollment of approximately 32,234
<br /> undergraduate, graduate and professional students for the 2024-2025 academic year. UNC Health Care
<br /> System opened in 1952 and occupies over 2 million square feet of leased and owned floor space. UNC
<br /> Medical Center has more than 1,000 beds, 1,100 medical staff and 780 resident physicians.
