Orange County Solid Waste <br />Scalehouse Building 06 10 00 -5 ROUGH CARPENTRY <br />E.Install wood blocking and nailers concurrently with roof system installation. Removal of <br />insulation and/or folding back of roof membrane to install wood blocking and nailers at a <br />later date is not acceptable. <br />F.Set rough carpentry to required levels and lines,with members plumb,true to line, <br />material cut to fit,and braced to hold work in proper position. Use a belt sander to <br />remove obtrusive surface irregularities. Drive nails and spikes home;and pull bolt nuts <br />tight with heads and washers in close contact with the wood. <br />G.Fit rough carpentry to other construction,scribe and cope for accurate fit. Correlate <br />location of furring,nailers,blocking,grounds,and similar supports to allow attachment of <br />other construction. Install joints between wood for a smooth transition. <br />H.Attachment: <br />1.Consult the fastener manufacturer's published literature and follow the <br />recommended requirements for pre-drilling,cleaning,placement and <br />compatibility of substrates. Follow manufacturer's requirements for fasteners <br />spacing,substrate preparation and substrate embedment where not specified. <br />2.Securely attach rough carpentry work to substrate with fasteners anchored to <br />resist the required upward and outward design wind loads. <br />3.Meet the requirements herein and that of FM DS 1-49​ for rough carpentry <br />attachment. <br />4.Install bolts flush with the top surface of nailers where possible to avoid <br />countersinking.Bolt bottom nailers then fasten above nailers where possible. <br />Countersink bolts,nuts and screws flush with wood surfaces only as detailed; <br />countersink a maximum of one half the board thickness. <br />5.Install fasteners without splitting wood. Pre-drill where necessary.Replace split <br />or damaged wood to provide acceptable conditions. <br />6.For anchors,pre-drill concrete and masonry units to prevent damage or cracking <br />of the masonry. Consult fastener manufacturer's published guides.Repair or <br />replace damaged masonry with fasteners re-installed in an acceptable location. <br />7.Fastener spacing:Staggered in two rows 1/3 the board width when board is <br />wider than 6 inches and installed within 3 to 4 inches of each end. <br />a.Nails:Securing wood to wood spaced as indicated below with two nails <br />installed within 3 to 4 inches of each end of nailer lengths to prevent <br />wood from twisting at board joints.Do not utilize nails at roof edges, <br />utilize screws. <br />1)Perimeter (Zone 2)spacing of 12 inches maximum and Corner <br />(Zone 3)spacing of 6 inches maximum. <br />b.Screws:Securing wood to wood spaced as indicated belowwith two <br />screws installed within 3 to 4 inches of each end of nailer lengths to <br />prevent wood from twisting at board joints. <br />1)Perimeter (Zone 2)spacing of 12 inches maximum and Corner <br />(Zone 3)spacing of 6 inches maximum. <br />Docusign Envelope ID: FA2D0569-6BCE-4E38-B3EE-9B3EFD09A753
