47 b. Orange County Safe Routes to School—Steering Committee <br /> 48 Nish T. presented a potential plan to begin implementing the adopted 2024 Safe Routes To School Plan, <br /> 49 focusing on the Steering Committee. He requested feedback on forming it addressing composition like <br /> 50 school staff, parents,youth,and other stakeholders.The importance of Parent Teacher Association(PTA) <br /> 51 involvement was highlighted; Nishith to reach out to each school's PTA. Concerns were raised about <br /> 52 managing committee size and expectations. Discussion acknowledged cultural barriers to <br /> 53 walking/biking to school and the need for public champions. Nish T. confirmed he will serve in a <br /> 54 facilitative role in creating the Steering Committee while seeking champions as recommended in the <br /> 55 plan. It was discussed that the best people to serve as "champion" would be a parent as school <br /> 56 administrators are already overwhelmed with their current job tasks. <br /> 57 <br /> 58 Outcome: No motion required. Input will continue to be gathered and revisited in future meetings. <br /> 59 <br /> 60 c. Non-STIP Project Updates <br /> 61 Nish T. shared a cleaned-up list of active non-STIP transportation projects. Discussion focused on <br /> 62 obligating IIJA and Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funds amid federal funding uncertainties. Projects <br /> 63 prioritized for obligation include road maintenance, transit improvements, and spot safety upgrades. <br /> 64 Agencies are working to secure funds in contracts to protect them from potential rescissions. <br /> 65 <br /> 66 AGENDA ITEM 6. STAFF REPORT/UPDATES <br /> 67 a. MPO, RPO, and NCDOT <br /> 68 Nish provided updates on key projects. Current DOT projects are proceeding as scheduled. Specific <br /> 69 bridge replacements and wildlife crossing accommodations were noted, particularly near the US 70 <br /> 70 corridor. <br /> 71 <br /> 72 AGENDA ITEM 8:ADJOURNMENT <br /> 73 OUTBoard meeting was adjourned.The next meeting is scheduled for March 17, 2025. <br />
