1 <br /> Department of Environment, <br /> Agriculture., Parrs &Recreation <br /> MEMORANDUM <br /> TO: Travis Myren, County Manager <br /> FROM: David Stancil, DEAPR Director <br /> Kalani Allen, Communications Manager <br /> DATE: April 15, 2025 <br /> RE: Earth Evening: A Celebration of Earth Day <br /> In celebration of the 55t" annual Earth Day (April 22, 2025), Orange County will <br /> be once again hosting Earth Evening on Friday April 251" from 6 p.m. — 8 p.m. <br /> The event will take place at the David E. Price Farmers' Market Pavilion, 140 E. <br /> Margaret Lane in Hillsborough. <br /> The first Earth Day event was held April 22, 1970, intended to promote <br /> environmental protection. Earth Day founder Senator Gaylord Nelson estimated <br /> 20 million Americans participated in Earth Day activities that year. This year's <br /> Earth Day 2025 theme is "Our Power, Our Planet" per EARTHDAY.ORG. <br /> Earth Evening is Orange County's event to celebrate Earth Day and has been <br /> held each year since 2013 in conjunction with the "Last Friday's" street fair in <br /> Hillsborough. There will be hands-on activities designed to educate, inspire, and <br /> entertain in the spirit of Earth Day. All ages are invited to attend the event and <br /> join in on the celebration. <br /> This year's participants include the Orange County Departments of: Aging; <br /> Cooperative Extension - Master Gardeners' & 4-H programs; Emergency <br /> Services, Environment, Agriculture, Parks & Recreation, Library; Planning; Solid <br /> Waste & Recycling, Sustainability and Transportation Services. <br /> Other agencies that will also be at Earth Evening include Eno River Association; <br /> NC Forest Service; Town of Hillsborough - Stormwater Management and Utilities <br /> Department; Hillsborough Tree Board; Orange County Beekeepers Association; <br /> NC Greenpower; NC State Parks and the US Environmental Protection Agency. <br /> Please find attached the event flyer. <br /> Orange County Department of Environment, Agriculture, Parks & Recreation <br /> PO Box 8181, Hillsborough, NC 27278 <br /> Phone: (919) 245-2510 <br />
