Improvement <br /> and CS <br /> Need: This is a major east-west corridor linking Mebane, Hillsborough and <br /> Durham through Orange County. Traffic continues increasing with more <br /> commuters traveling from Mebane and Hillsborough into Durham. Many <br /> use this corridor to avoid 1-85. It is also designated at a Strategic Freight <br /> Corridor in the DCHC MPO adopted Freight Plan. <br /> Description: Widen NC 86 from U.S. 70 Bypass to north of NC 57 to four <br /> (4) lanes with intersection improvements at U.S. 70 Bypass and NC 57 <br /> Need: The segment of NC 86 between NC 57 and U.S. 70 is highly <br /> congested. Traffic counts indicate that this segment of NC 86 is over <br /> NC 86 capacity for average annual daily counts. Capacity improvements would <br /> 2 TWTPO Improvements ease congestion and improve travel time along this primary north-south Approve Approve Remove, <br /> North of corridor connecting the Town of Hillsborough to NC 57 and northern conduct study <br /> Hillsborough Orange County. Additionally, this area is identified in the Orange County <br /> Safe Routes to School Plan and the Town of Hillsborough Connectivity <br /> Plan as an area in need of improvements for pedestrians, particularly for <br /> school age residents of the Fairview neighborhood that walk to Orange <br /> High School and Stanford Middle School. The Town of Hillsborough <br /> Connectivity Plan also calls for bike lanes in this area as well. <br /> Description: Realign the intersection of Eno Mountain Road (SR 1148) and <br /> Eno Mountain Mayo Street (SR 1192)with Orange Grove Road (SR 1006) and make <br /> Road/Mayo safety improvements. <br /> 3 TWTPO Street at Need: The project would improve safety, reduce travel time, and improve Approve Approve Approve <br /> Orange Grove traffic flow between residential and commercial areas in the Town of <br /> Rd. Hillsborough. <br />
