1 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: April 1, 2025 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. 4-a <br /> SUBJECT: Volunteer Week Proclamation <br /> DEPARTMENT: Clerk's Office <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> Proclamation Clerk's Office, 919-245-2130 <br /> PURPOSE: To approve a proclamation declaring April 20-26, 2025, as "Volunteer Week" in <br /> Orange County. <br /> BACKGROUND: National Volunteer Week was enacted in 1974 by President Richard Nixon to <br /> celebrate the spirit of volunteerism and is recognized by states and local governments across the <br /> country. This special week encourages all Americans to seek opportunities to provide service to <br /> their community. <br /> Orange County has hundreds of volunteers that support the missions of County Departments, <br /> including over 250 residents serving on volunteer boards and commissions. <br /> More information on volunteering with Orange County can be found at <br /> https://orangecountync.gov/3348/Volunteer-for-Orange-County . <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with this item. <br /> ALIGNMENT WITH STRATEGIC PLAN: There are no specific Orange County Strategic Plan <br /> Goals applicable to this item. However, several of the Guiding Principles leading to the Strategic <br /> Plan framework are applicable: <br /> • Communication and Awareness <br /> We provide information and opportunities for engagement in a transparent manner so that <br /> all in our community have knowledge, understanding, and a voice. <br /> • Inclusivity and Engagement <br /> We foster an environment in which all are welcomed, represented, and empowered to <br /> participate in and feel connected to their community. <br /> • Dedication and Respect <br /> We commit to our roles in public service and organizational excellence by fostering the <br /> skills, talents, and innovation of our residents, employees, volunteers, and boards needed <br /> to carry out this work. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve and authorize the <br /> Chair to sign the attached proclamation declaring April 20-26, 2025, as "Volunteer Week" in <br /> Orange County. <br />
