1 <br /> APPROVED 3118/25 <br /> MINUTES <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> BUSINESS MEETING <br /> February 4, 2025 <br /> 7:00 p.m. <br /> The Orange County Board of Commissioners met for a Business Meeting on Tuesday, February <br /> 4, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. at the Whitted Human Services Center in Hillsborough, NC. <br /> COUNTY COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chair Jamezetta Bedford, Vice-Chair Jean Hamilton <br /> and Commissioners Marilyn Carter, Amy Fowler, Sally Greene, Earl McKee, and Phyllis Portie- <br /> Ascott <br /> COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: NONE <br /> COUNTY ATTORNEYS PRESENT: John Roberts <br /> COUNTY STAFF PRESENT: County Manager Travis Myren, Interim Deputy County Manager <br /> Caitlin Fenhagen, and Clerk to the Board Laura Jensen. (All other staff members will be identified <br /> appropriately below) <br /> Chair Bedford called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. All commissioners were present. <br /> Chair Bedford read the public charge. She explained the process for making public <br /> comments for items not on the agenda vs. items that are on the agenda. <br /> 1. Additions or Changes to the Agenda <br /> None. <br /> 2. Public Comments (Limited to One Hour) <br /> a. Matters not on the Printed Agenda <br /> None. <br /> b. Matters on the Printed Agenda <br /> (These matters will be considered when the Board addresses that item on the agenda below.) <br /> 3. Announcements, Petitions and Comments by Board Members <br /> Commissioner McKee had no comments to share tonight. <br /> Commissioner Greene acknowledged the death of Capt. Rebecca Lobach who was one <br /> of the three victims of the Black Hawk helicopter crash in Washington, D.C. She said that she was <br /> a UNC Alum and a native of Durham. She shared that on the 151" the Orange County Community <br /> Remembrance Coalition is holding a dedication for the historical marker from the Equal Justice <br /> Initiative to commemorate the lives of Washington Thomas Jefferson and Daniel Morrow. She <br /> said they were three black family members that were terrorized and lynched around Hillsborough <br /> in 1869. She said that she also attended a groundbreaking for Griffin Partners in the Buckhorn <br /> EDD. She said they will build two buildings for office space. She said it fits very well within the <br /> economic development facilities. She said there are hearings this week on the Orange County <br /> Consolidated Housing Plan at the RENA Community Center and the Efland Cheeks Community <br /> Center. <br /> Commissioner Portie-Ascott said the Ag Summit will be Monday at the Cedar Grove <br /> Community Center. She said that she attended the low-barrier to housing community meeting last <br /> weekend. She said that she was impressed that they pointed out the biggest solutions. She said <br /> she also attended the Orange County Partnership for Young Children meeting and the GoTriangle <br /> Special Tax Advisory Meeting. She said that she was elected to an officer position there. <br />
