5 <br />SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Solid Waste Operations Manager assigns <br />work in terms of very general instructions, Completed work is reviewed for <br />compliance with instn~ctions and procedures, accuracy, and the nature and <br />propriety of results. <br />GUIDELINES: Guidelines include county ordinances, county and department <br />policies and procedures, relevant state and federal laws and regulations, and <br />safety rules and regulations, These guidelines are generally clear and specific, <br />but may require some interpretation in application. <br />COMPLEXITY: The work consists of difficult skilled work which consists of <br />varied duties in the maintenance and repair of department vehicles and heavy <br />construction equipment in addition to administrative, supervisory and <br />management responsibilities, Equipment breakdown in the field and inclement <br />weather conditions contribute to the complexity of the work. <br />SCOPE AND EFFECT: The purpose of this position is to oversee the <br />maintenance and repair of department operations including conveyors, motors, <br />pumps, vehicles and heavy construction equipment, Successful performance <br />helps ensure the safe operation of department vehicles and heavy equipment <br />and contributes to efficient department operations, <br />PERSONAL CONTACTS: Contacts are typically with co-workers both higher <br />and lower levels, other county employees, a wide variety of vendors and <br />manufacture representatives, contractors and the general public. <br />PURPOSE OF CONTACTS: Contacts are typically to give or exchange <br />information, provide services, and resolve problems, <br />PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is typically performed while standing, walking, <br />bending, crouching or stooping, The employee must work in places that are hard <br />to get to and in difficult positions; frequently lifts light and heavy objects; climbs <br />ladders; uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity; and must <br />distinguish between shades of color, <br />WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is performed in an office, shop, and <br />outdoors, The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with <br />moving parts, irritating chemicals, foul odors, and inclement weather. The work <br />may require the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles or gloves. <br />SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: This position has <br />direct supervision over Heavy Equipment Mechanic I (2) and functional <br />supervision over Landfill Equipment Operator (5), Landfill Inspector (3) and <br />
