3 <br />Attachment 1 <br />JOB TITLE: Heavy Equipment Mechanic Supervisor <br />DEPARTMENT: Solid Waste, Orange County <br />JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for overseeing the maintenance <br />and repair of automotive vehicles, small departmental support equipment, heavy <br />construction equipment, a large truck fleet, plus all processing equipment located <br />at the recycling operations facility, including serving as supervisor to Heavy <br />Equipment Mechanic I positions. <br />MAJOR DUTIES: <br />o Oversees and performs routine and preventive maintenance on all landfill and <br />recycling equipment, administrative vehicles and light, medium and heavy <br />equipment used in department operations, <br />o Diagnoses the mechanical, electrical and hydraulic component of any <br />breakdown on all equipment which may include reviewing flow charts, <br />schematics, manuals, etc, <br />o Performs mechanical repairs, which may include engine, transmission, front <br />and rear differential, brakes, final drives, hydraulic pumps, motors, starters, <br />electrical problems, fabrication, etc, <br />o Develops and implements the department preventive maintenance program <br />and schedule to prevent major breakdowns and detect problems before they <br />become major. <br />o Develops, recommends and oversees the equipment maintenance and repair <br />budget far the department, which includes the Recycling, Administration and <br />Landfill divisions, <br />o Supervises lower level Mechanics, including recruiting, training, performance <br />evaluations, counseling, disciplining, and scheduling and prioritizing work; <br />ensures that assigned work is completed accurately and timely. <br />o Supervises Landfill Equipment Operators, Landfill Inspectors and <br />Weighmasters in the absence of the Landfill Operations Manager, <br />o Develops and oversees lock-out and long out procedures for all department <br />equipment. <br />
