Salary Grade 17 has a hiring <br />range of $37,039 - $59,21 1, <br />BACKGROUND: In May 2003, the Solid Waste Director realigned existing positions in the <br />Solid Waste department and created a new Heavy Equipment Mechanic I position, In addition <br />to the realignment, the Solid Waste Director also restructured duties and responsibilities among <br />the Heavy Equipment Mechanic positions. Currently, there is one Heavy Equipment Mechanic <br />II and two Heavy Equipment Mechanic I positions that are primarily responsible for the <br />maintenance and repair of heavy construction equipment at the landfill, <br />Since that realignment further changes have occurred in the duties of the Heavy Equipment <br />Mechanic II position, In addition to the original duties of maintaining and repairing heavy <br />construction equipment and serving as leadworker, the following changes have occurred: <br />The Heavy Equipment Mechanic II no longer reports to the Landfill Operations <br />Supervisor but now reports to the Solid Waste Operations Manager, Paul Spire who is <br />second in command in the department. The new reporting relationship provides for <br />additional administrative, financial and budgetary support to the Solid Waste <br />Operations Manager, <br />In the past, the Heavy Equipment Mechanic II served as leadworker to one Heavy <br />Equipment Mechanic I. Now, the Heavy Equipment Mechanic II serves as supervisor <br />to two Heavy Equipment Mechanic I positions and serves as back up supervisor to five <br />Landfill Equipment Operators, three Landfill Inspectors, and two Weighmasters in the <br />absence of the Landfill Operations Manager. <br />• In order to supervise landfill activities and functions, the Heavy Equipment Mechanic II <br />has become certified as a Technical Associate for "Manager of Landfill Operations". <br />
