1 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: March 18, 2025 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. 8-f <br /> SUBJECT: Dedication of Six (6) Bus Shelters to the Town of Hillsborough <br /> DEPARTMENT: Orange County Transportation Services <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> Nishith Trivedi, Transportation Director, <br /> 919-245-2007 <br /> PURPOSE: To approve the dedication of six (6) bus shelters to the Town of Hillsborough. <br /> BACKGROUND: Orange County Transportation Services, in collaboration with the Planning and <br /> Inspections Department and Asset Management Services, has successfully completed the <br /> construction of six (6) bus shelters in Hillsborough over a two-year period. These shelters were <br /> constructed between 2022 and 2024. The locations of these shelters are as follows: <br /> • Faucette Mill Road at US 70 (within NCDOT right-of-way); <br /> • NC 86 Southbound at Hampton Point (within NCDOT right-of-way); <br /> • North Churton Street at Hillsborough Police Station (within NCDOT right-of-way); <br /> • Rainey Avenue at Fairview Community Center (Town of Hillsborough property); <br /> • River Park (Town of Hillsborough property); <br /> • Library (Town of Hillsborough property). <br /> The Town of Hillsborough has agreed to assume maintenance responsibilities for the shelters, <br /> provided the shelters are formally dedicated to the Town by the County. Orange County <br /> Transportation Services requests that the Board approve the dedication of the six (6) bus shelters <br /> listed above to the Town of Hillsborough. Upon the Board's approval, Orange County and the <br /> Town will finalize the transfer by presenting the request to the Town Board, which will effectuate <br /> this transfer. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: The County would no longer be financially or contractually obligated to <br /> maintain the shelters. <br /> ALIGNMENT WITH STRATEGIC PLAN: This item supports: <br /> • GOAL 4: MULTI-MODAL TRANSPORTATION <br /> OBJECTIVE 2. Increase community awareness of all modes of transportation including <br /> transit, bike and pedestrian, vehicle, and all other modes. <br /> OBJECTIVE 3. Support road projects that address congestion and reduce commute time <br /> using the County' s Complete Streets policy. <br /> OBJECTIVE 4. Coordinate transit investments with municipal and county land use <br /> planning to reduce vehicle miles travelled and to provide more equitable access to <br /> shopping, employment, medical centers, college campuses, etc. <br />
