Attachment 1 <br /> 1 <br /> 1 DRAFT MINUTES <br /> 2 ORANGE COUNTY <br /> 3 BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> 4 BUSINESS MEETING <br /> 5 February 4, 2025 <br /> 6 7:00 p.m. <br /> 7 <br /> 8 The Orange County Board of Commissioners met for a Business Meeting on Tuesday, February <br /> 9 4, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. at the Whitted Human Services Center in Hillsborough, NC. <br /> 10 <br /> 11 COUNTY COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chair Jamezetta Bedford, Vice-Chair Jean Hamilton <br /> 12 and Commissioners Marilyn Carter, Amy Fowler, Sally Greene, Earl McKee, and Phyllis Portie- <br /> 13 Ascott <br /> 14 COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: NONE <br /> 15 COUNTY ATTORNEYS PRESENT: John Roberts <br /> 16 COUNTY STAFF PRESENT: County Manager Travis Myren, Interim Deputy County Manager <br /> 17 Caitlin Fenhagen, and Clerk to the Board Laura Jensen. (All other staff members will be identified <br /> 18 appropriately below) <br /> 19 <br /> 20 Chair Bedford called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. All commissioners were present. <br /> 21 Chair Bedford read the public charge. She explained the process for making public <br /> 22 comments for items not on the agenda vs. items that are on the agenda. <br /> 23 <br /> 24 1. Additions or Changes to the Agenda <br /> 25 None. <br /> 26 <br /> 27 2. Public Comments (Limited to One Hour) <br /> 28 a. Matters not on the Printed Aqenda <br /> 29 None. <br /> 30 <br /> 31 b. Matters on the Printed Agenda <br /> 32 (These matters will be considered when the Board addresses that item on the agenda below.) <br /> 33 <br /> 34 3. Announcements, Petitions and Comments by Board Members <br /> 35 Commissioner McKee had no comments to share tonight. <br /> 36 Commissioner Greene acknowledged the death of Capt. Rebecca Lobach who was one <br /> 37 of the three victims of the Black Hawk helicopter crash in Washington, D.C. She said that she was <br /> 38 a UNC Alum and a native of Durham. She shared that on the 151h the Orange County Community <br /> 39 Remembrance Coalition is holding a dedication for the historical marker from the Equal Justice <br /> 40 Initiative to commemorate the lives of Washington Thomas Jefferson and Daniel Morrow. She <br /> 41 said they were three black family members that were terrorized and lynched around Hillsborough <br /> 42 in 1869. She said that she also attended a groundbreaking for Griffin Partners in the Buckhorn <br /> 43 EDD. She said they will build two buildings for office space. She said it fits very well within the <br /> 44 economic development facilities. She said there are hearings this week on the Orange County <br /> 45 Consolidated Housing Plan at the RENA Community Center and the Efland Cheeks Community <br /> 46 Center. <br /> 47 Commissioner Portie-Ascott said the Ag Summit will be Monday at the Cedar Grove <br /> 48 Community Center. She said that she attended the low-barrier to housing community meeting last <br /> 49 weekend. She said that she was impressed that they pointed out the biggest solutions. She said <br /> 50 she also attended the Orange County Partnership for Young Children meeting and the GoTriangle <br /> 51 Special Tax Advisory Meeting. She said that she was elected to an officer position there. <br />
