Attachment 1 1 1 DRAFT MINUTES 2 ORANGE COUNTY 3 BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS 4 BUSINESS MEETING 5 February 4, 2025 6 7:00 p.m. 7 8 The Orange County Board of Commissioners met for a Business Meeting on Tuesday, February 9 4, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. at the Whitted Human Services Center in Hillsborough, NC. 10 11 COUNTY COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chair Jamezetta Bedford, Vice-Chair Jean Hamilton 12 and Commissioners Marilyn Carter, Amy Fowler, Sally Greene, Earl McKee, and Phyllis Portie- 13 Ascott 14 COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: NONE 15 COUNTY ATTORNEYS PRESENT: John Roberts 16 COUNTY STAFF PRESENT: County Manager Travis Myren, Interim Deputy County Manager 17 Caitlin Fenhagen, and Clerk to the Board Laura Jensen. (All other staff members will be identified 18 appropriately below) 19 20 Chair Bedford called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. All commissioners were present. 21 Chair Bedford read the public charge. She explained the process for making public 22 comments for items not on the agenda vs. items that are on the agenda. 23 24 1. Additions or Changes to the Agenda 25 None. 26 27 2. Public Comments (Limited to One Hour) 28 a. Matters not on the Printed Aqenda 29 None. 30 31 b. Matters on the Printed Agenda 32 (These matters will be considered when the Board addresses that item on the agenda below.) 33 34 3. Announcements, Petitions and Comments by Board Members 35 Commissioner McKee had no comments to share tonight. 36 Commissioner Greene acknowledged the death of Capt. Rebecca Lobach who was one 37 of the three victims of the Black Hawk helicopter crash in Washington, D.C. She said that she was 38 a UNC Alum and a native of Durham. She shared that on the 151h the Orange County Community 39 Remembrance Coalition is holding a dedication for the historical marker from the Equal Justice 40 Initiative to commemorate the lives of Washington Thomas Jefferson and Daniel Morrow. She 41 said they were three black family members that were terrorized and lynched around Hillsborough 42 in 1869. She said that she also attended a groundbreaking for Griffin Partners in the Buckhorn 43 EDD. She said they will build two buildings for office space. She said it fits very well within the 44 economic development facilities. She said there are hearings this week on the Orange County 45 Consolidated Housing Plan at the RENA Community Center and the Efland Cheeks Community 46 Center. 47 Commissioner Portie-Ascott said the Ag Summit will be Monday at the Cedar Grove 48 Community Center. She said that she attended the low-barrier to housing community meeting last 49 weekend. She said that she was impressed that they pointed out the biggest solutions. She said 50 she also attended the Orange County Partnership for Young Children meeting and the GoTriangle 51 Special Tax Advisory Meeting. She said that she was elected to an officer position there.
