12. How many tons of greenhouse <br /> gas emissions will your project <br /> reduce/avoid each year? <br /> Please list any data sources <br /> used and show the steps of <br /> any calculations. Feel free to <br /> submit in a separate <br /> document if clearly labeled. <br /> The St. Joseph's CME Church Solar Project will obviate 19.8 metric tons <br /> of greenhouse gas emissions from entering the atmosphere every year. <br /> This is equivalent to producing 28,431kWH per year. The annual <br /> degradation of the system is 0.45%. <br /> Assumptions: <br /> 639.7 lbs CO2e/MWh = 0.6397 lbs CO2e/kWh, 0.6397 lbs CO2e/kWh * <br /> 0.4536 = 0.290 kg CO2e/kWh <br /> Emissions factor (kg CO2e/kWh): 0.29 <br /> 13. Over how many years will this <br /> emissions reduction take place <br /> as a result of your project? <br /> Please consider the expected <br /> lifetime of the <br /> technology/program/impact, <br /> etc. <br /> The emissions reduction will occur over the 25-year lifespan of the <br /> panels. The panels will operate at 84.8% of their initial capacity at the <br /> end of their 25-year lifetime. These production standards are <br /> guaranteed by the Trina Panel Manufacturer. Nonetheless, given the <br /> likely increase in cost of electricity, we expect that monthly savings will <br /> actually be higher than they were at the outset of the project. In fact, <br /> Duke Energy recently passed a rate change through the North Carolina <br /> Utilities Commission that ’ll increase energy costs by 15.7% by the <br /> beginning of 2026. Since energy costs will be higher, the value of <br /> obviated natural gas use will also increase. <br /> 14. Please describe the location of <br /> the emissions reduction. <br /> Where would fossil fuels have <br /> been burned if not for your <br /> project? For projects that <br /> reduce electricity usage or <br /> that generate solar energy, <br /> feel free to state “grid-tied <br /> electricity reduction” if you <br /> cannot determine the location <br /> of emissions produced from <br /> electric power generation. <br /> Grid-tied electricity reduction <br /> 15. Please describe any other <br /> aspect of your project that is <br /> relevant to the amount of <br /> emissions that it will reduce or <br /> avoid. <br /> As outlined in the response to Question 11, the installation of rooftop <br /> solar on St. Joseph's CME Church - the community center - may lead to <br /> increased solar adoption amongst residents in the community. This <br /> claim is empirically backed by a study conducted by Frontiers in <br /> Sustainable Energy Policy , a leading research publisher on renewable <br /> energy. The strong influence coefficient between non-residential solar <br /> installations and residential solar installations underlines how the <br /> solarization of a singular non-residential building can have a dramatic <br /> effect on how renewable energy is viewed within the community. <br /> Those new to solar often express concerns related to maintenance <br /> costs and the impact the array has on the underlying roof.
