In a study published by Frontiers in
Sustainable Energy Policy, researchers found a strong
influence coefficient between non-residential solar
installations and residential solar installations,
demonstrating that a non-residential solar array - St.
Joseph's CME Church for example - are associated
with local increases in residential adoption rate.
Although correlation does not prove causation, there
appears to be a positive relationship between solar
adoption rates for churches and residences.
Churches fitted with solar are often located in
affluent, white-dominated communities. St. Joseph's
CME Church has the opportunity to be a flagship
project where those benefiting will see a material
reduction in their energy costs. Concurrently, the
project will function as a physical manifestation of
the Neighborhood’s commitment to fighting the
climate crisis.
Sources:
Across the country, houses of worship are going solar
| National Catholic Reporter (ncronline.org)
How Religion Intersects With Americans’ Views on
the Environment | Pew Research Center
Criterion 2 - Emissions Reduced
This criterion has a maximum score of 4 pts (out of a total of 26 pts).
Please see the Grant Project website for estimation tools and the Background and Information document for
information about technical assistance.
