Would your proposed project
help you to take advantage of
funding from other sources
besides this grant in the
future?
By using funds from the Orange County Community Climate Action
Grant for the initial costs of this project, such as a tractor and materials
for plantings, Eno River Association will be able to support the
maintenance of the Piedmont prairie and reforestation field from its
operations budget. Additionally, the restoration of native ecosystems
at the Confluence, in addition to their function in carbon sequestration,
may be an additional motivator for individuals' donations to Eno River
Association, which are an essential source of funding.
20. Please describe any other
aspect of your project that is
relevant to the efficient use of
grant funds.

Criterion 4 - Capacity of Applicant
This criterion has a maximum score of 3 pts (out of a total of 26 pts).

21. a. Has your organization
completed projects of this type
in the past?
b. If so, what funds were
used?
☒ Yes - Reforestation ☐ No

☒ Funding used (Please describe): Grant funding from the NC
Land and Water Fund, We Plant It Forward, Burt’s Bees Foundation,
and Durham Open Space and Trails Commission. Operational funding
and volunteer support has been used to implement the projects.
22. Please provide a brief
description of similar past
achievements or projects and
evidence of successfully
meeting proposed budgets
and timetables (2-4
sentences).
The Eno River Association has led several successful reforestation
projects in our long history. Our most recent reforestation projects
have included efforts in 2015 and 2018 in tree planting across a portion
of a previous agriculture field in the bottomlands of the Confluence.
The trees have been maintained through mowing and watering by
volunteers and staff over the last six years since the last planting and
are now stable enough to require less maintenance. These projects
were funded by the North Carolina Water Management Trust Fund and
We Plant it Forward.
23. If you are proposing to
collaborate with other
organizations on this project,
please briefly describe their
relevant experience to the
project and/or the target
population.
For prairie restoration, prescribed burning will require collaboration
with the local fire department and NC Forest Service, as well as the
Triangle Prescribed Burn Association for both expertise and rental of
equipment throughout the duration of the burn. Though ERA staff has
one certified burner on staff and increased fire equipment supply in the
previous year, we will require more equipment and trained personnel
to safely conduct a burn. For expertise on prairie conversion and
burning, we collaborated with Bluestem Community NC and Prairie
Ridge Eco-station to learn about their successes and lessons learned
and will continue to collaborate as we move through this process.
Reforestation efforts in previous projects have been done in
collaboration with We Plant it Forward and North Carolina Wildlife
Federation (NCWF). We will collaborate with either or both of these
Docusign Envelope ID: 044C3299-6F90-4782-B8F5-C4A7339F0897
