Project Information
*Please submit for each project if applying for funding for more than one project.

1. Project Name: Nature-based Solutions at the Confluence Natural Area
2. Please briefly describe the
proposed project. (100-300
words)
The Eno River Association plans to convert our existing agricultural
fields totaling nearly 23 acres at our Confluence Natural Area to either
Piedmont prairie or forest. These nature-based solutions will decrease
CO2 emissions from previous cropland production by 136 metric tons
and sequester 332 metric tons of carbon over the first twenty years, for
a net decrease in carbon emissions of 468 metric tons. This project will
benefit the surrounding agricultural community by providing a source
of pollinators to increase the yield and quality of their crops, providing
a boost in production and economic growth. It will also benefit Orange
County by providing an educational resource for the roughly 10,000
annual visitors to the preserve, nearly 500 annual students in our
educational programs and camps, and a minimum of 50 unique annual
volunteers. Through our strong partnership with Title One schools who
serve a majority of low-income and BIPOC students, we actively recruit
students and provide need-based scholarships to low-income families
to attend our camps and programs.
3.
