33. How many people will
benefit from your project?
The program is expected to benefit approximately 55,000 students and
school staff over the lifespan of the trees, which will provide enduring
environmental and educational benefits. In addition, an estimated 6,300
people will benefit from the 2,600 seedlings distributed during educational
presentations, based on an average household size of 2.42 (Census.gov).
This estimate includes the students' families who receive seedlings, as well
as school faculty and staff who frequently visit the schools. By sending
seedlings and educational materials home with students, we aim to create
a lasting and widespread impact on the community, extending the benefits
far beyond the school environment.
34. Please describe how you
will engage with and/or
educate project participants
and/or the community.
The program focuses on both environmental benefits and education,
aiming to actively involve students, teachers, and the broader community.
Certified arborists and trained volunteers will partner with students,
teachers, and PTAs to provide hands-on instruction in proper planting,
watering, maintenance, and mulching of trees. TftT will collaborate with
school administration, maintenance staff, and environmental clubs to
organize bi-annual clean-up and ground maintenance days. Additionally,
we will offer tree-related educational materials and activities for school
curricula, minimizing the burden on teachers while maximizing educational
impact.

To engage a diverse audience, we will offer educational materials in
multiple formats, including take-home resources, online information, and
school gatherings. These materials and events will cover topics like green
infrastructure, nature-based solutions, and the benefits of tree planting,
with translations available in Spanish where possible to ensure
accessibility. Students will receive seedling packages with how-to kits,
encouraging them to apply their learning at home and in their
communities while ensuring proper tree plantings offsite. Our team will
include creative, interactive elements, such as brain puzzles, coloring
pages, and seedling photo contests to make learning engaging and
impactful.

By partnering with local organizations like DOC NC, we will provide
workshops and create additional educational content. Our goal is to reach
thousands of students in Orange County, instilling knowledge about native
trees and fostering a lifelong commitment to environmental stewardship.
This project not only aims to improve local surroundings but also
empowers students to enhance their natural environments wherever they
go.
35. How will you measure the
success of that engagement
or educational effort?
To measure the success of our engagement and educational efforts, TftT
will employ a variety of strategies. We plan to foster ongoing participation
by organizing school or class contests, encouraging students to document
their seedling planting progress through photo submissions. This will allow
us to track and evaluate their adherence to proper planting and care
practices.

To minimize the burden on the community, we aim to reduce the need for
extensive surveys, though concise surveys might be distributed for
Docusign Envelope ID: D22675F9-86C0-429B-8CAD-74E02C6C68FC
