If this project is not
selected for funding in this
round, what other funding
might be used to support it
within the next 5 years?
☐ Other capital or operational funds ☒ None. This is a unique opportunity. ☒ Unknown (please describe): If this project is not selected for funding in
this round, TftT will actively seek alternative funding sources to support its
completion within the next 5 years. While we cannot guarantee a specific
timeline for project completion without this funding, we will explore
various avenues including grants from other environmental organizations,
corporate sponsorships, and community fundraising efforts. Our
commitment to the project remains steadfast, and we will persist in our
efforts to secure the necessary resources to realize our goals.

Criterion 5 - Local Economic Development
This criterion has a maximum score of 3 pts (out of a total of 26 pts).

29. How many Orange County
residents are employed by
your organization?
Trees for the Triangle (TftT) currently employs one staff member, and they
are not a resident of Orange County.
30. What project materials will
be purchased from sources
within Orange County or
North Carolina? What
percent of the total
materials do these
represent?
TftT is committed to sourcing as many project materials as possible from
Orange County. Most, if not all, of the trees will be purchased from local
nurseries within Orange County. For any additional materials, tools, mulch,
and related items that we cannot obtain locally, we will ensure they are
sourced from within North Carolina. Our goal is to maximize local
procurement and support the Triangle region's economy, aiming for 100%
of materials to be sourced within North Carolina.
31. Please describe any other
aspect of your project that
is relevant to local
economic development.
Shade for Schools - Orange County supports local economic development
by providing training in topic areas related to natural resources and
environmental science, showcasing career options for students. TftT will
also engage the school community in skill-building activities and offer
volunteer and internship opportunities. Additionally, we prioritize sourcing
materials from local nurseries and businesses in Orange County, which
helps boost the local economy and strengthen community connections.

Criterion 6 - Amount and Duration of Engagement
This criterion has a maximum score of 3 pts (out of a total of 26 pts).

32. Please briefly describe the
target population to
benefit from the project.
Shade for Schools - Orange County is designed to benefit a broad range of
individuals within Orange County, with a primary focus on public school
communities. This includes students, their families, teachers, staff, and
volunteers. Trees for the Triangle (TftT) aim to particularly support low-
income populations and schools that have historically lacked access to
environmental resources. By providing tree planting and environmental
education, we address equity concerns and target schools with ESEA
designations, higher percentages of EDS, POC, people in poverty, and heat
disparity, and lower tree equity scores, which highlight disparities in
environmental benefits. The program’s impact will be most direct for those
within the schools, but its benefits will extend throughout the community,
promoting greater access to green spaces and educational opportunities
for future generations.
Docusign Envelope ID: D22675F9-86C0-429B-8CAD-74E02C6C68FC
