This reduction in runoff helps mitigate flooding risks and decreases
the costs associated with stormwater management and flood damage
during significant storms.

Health-Related Savings: Increased tree coverage improves air quality,
which can lead to reduced medical costs related to respiratory issues and
heat-related health problems among children. Cleaner air and a more
temperate environment contribute to overall public health savings.

Ecological Value: The long-term ecological benefits of each tree far exceed
the initial planting costs. The value of these benefits is documented by the
Arbor Day Foundation’s tree value calculator
(https://www.arborday.org/calculator/treeinfo.cfm?zip=27278&city=HILLS
BOROUGH&state=NC&climatezone=South), which demonstrates that the
ecological benefits provided by each tree greatly outweigh its cost.
17. Does your project
accelerate or expand on
existing programs that
already show positive
impact?
The Shade for Schools - Orange County program expands on the recently
proposed Shade for Schools - Wake County program by establishing it as a
growing initiative across the Triangle region. This grant will facilitate the
development of comprehensive educational materials and presentations
that may then be adapted and used in participating schools in other
regions, enhancing the program’s effectiveness and reach. Additionally,
the success of this expanded program will increase the likelihood of
securing future funding for similar projects throughout the Triangle,
demonstrating its positive impact and ensuring long-term sustainability.
18. Does your project take
advantage of other funding
sources?
TftT actively seeks additional funding sources to enhance future projects
with support from its Board of Director’s Grants Coordinator and Grants &
Fundraising Committee. At this time, we do not have any additional
funding sources to launch Shade for Schools - Orange County. As TftT is a
nonprofit organization and schools often face limited funding, this grant is
crucial for the successful implementation of the program. The funding will
enable us to realize the full range of benefits associated with the program,
maximizing the environmental and educational impact. The grant will serve
as a catalyst for achieving these goals and will also help attract further
support and investment for ongoing and future initiatives.
19. Would your proposed
project help you to take
advantage of funding from
other sources besides this
grant in the future?
Yes, the proposed project is designed to leverage this grant as a foundation
for securing additional funding from other sources in the future. While this
grant is currently the sole source of funding for the program, it will provide
a strong basis for demonstrating the program’s success and impact. We
will actively seek complementary funding opportunities and use the
outcomes of this grant to appeal to potential donors and grantmaking
organizations. By showcasing the program's achievements through our
website, social media, and in-person events, we aim to attract both large
and small donors. TftT is also a member of several local nonprofit
networking groups, from which diverse funding opportunities are
promoted. This approach will help us expand the Shade for Schools
program to include more schools across the Triangle and fully realize its
Docusign Envelope ID: D22675F9-86C0-429B-8CAD-74E02C6C68FC
