The cost per unit of impact must reflect
the total program budget divided by the total impact of the project described in this application. If the proposed
project is new, please write N/A in the Actual Annual Project Costs column of the table below, and just fill out
the last column. Please see the Grant Project website for further guidance and the Background and Information
document for information about technical assistance. Applicants are encouraged to ask for clarification and
technical assistance as early as possible and no later than the posted deadline for questions.
Example
Actual Annual
Project Costs
(If your proposed
project expands
or accelerates an
ongoing effort)
Projected Project Costs
Total Cost of Project $3,765 N/A $50,000
Unit of Impact:
Total # of metric tons of
greenhouse gases reduced
44 metric tons
CO2e/year N/A 171.6 metric tons CO2e
sequestered
Cost Per Metric Ton of GHG’s
Reduced
$3,765/44 =
$86/metric ton N/A $50,000/171.6 = $291.38/metric
ton
Unit of Impact:
Total # of individuals
served/benefitted
8,840
individuals/year N/A 8,100 students & staff/year for 20+
years = >162,000 individuals
Cost Per Individual
Served/Benefitted
$3,765/8,840 =
$0.43/individual N/A $50,000/162,000 = $0.31/individual
Other Unit of Impact: Please
describe here
N/A N/A 10 gallons/year x 260 trees =
52,000 gallons over 20 years
Cost Per Unit of Impact N/A N/A $50,000/52,000 gallons =
$0.96/gallon diverted
Other Unit of Impact: Please
describe here
N/A N/A N/A
Cost Per Unit of Impact N/A N/A N/A
(Please feel free to add rows if necessary to show any additional units of impact.)

16. Please describe any
avoided financial costs or
savings related to the
project and over what
period of time those costs
will be avoided/reduced.
Cost Efficiency in Planting: By leveraging Trees for the Triangle (TftT)’s
expertise, the cost of planting trees is significantly lower compared to
hiring professional landscapers. The program benefits from supervision by
a certified arborist, ensuring proper planting and maintenance while
reducing overall costs. For $50,000, we can plant 20 trees at each of the 13
schools in the Orange County School District, equating to $192.31 per tree.
This cost is comparable to or lower than typical landscaping expenses and
embeds additional services such as outreach and education.

Energy Savings: Trees contribute to reducing heating and cooling costs for
school buildings.
