Tree Planting:
o Number of Trees: 20 trees per school x 13 schools = 260
trees
o Carbon dioxide (CO2) Sequestration per Tree: 0.060 metric
tons CO2
o Total CO2 Sequestered by Trees: 260 trees x 0.060 metric
tons CO2 = 15.6 metric tons CO2
2. Seedling Distribution:
o Number of Seedlings Distributed: 200 seedlings per school
x 13 schools = 2600 seedlings
o CO2 Sequestration per Seedling: 0.060 metric tons CO2
o Total CO2 Sequestered by Seedlings: 2600 seedlings x
0.060 metric tons CO2 = 156 metric tons CO2

Total CO2 Sequestration:
• From Trees: 15.6 metric tons CO2
• From Seedlings: 156 metric tons CO2
• Combined Total: 171.6 metric tons CO2

Direct and Indirect GHG Emission Reduction:
• The program will directly reduce carbon emissions through carbon
sequestration by both the planted trees and distributed seedlings.
• Indirectly, the program will reduce energy consumption for cooling
school buildings, further contributing to greenhouse gas reduction.

Data Source: EPA Greenhouse Gas Equivalencies Calculator
https://www.epa.gov/energy/greenhouse-gas-equivalencies-calculator
13. Over how many years will
this emissions reduction
take place as a result of
your project? Please
consider the expected
lifetime of the technology/
program/ impact, etc.
The emissions reduction calculated is based on a 10-year growth period for
the trees and seedlings. This timeframe considers the typical growth and
sequestration rates for native urban trees. Key aspects of the program's
longevity and impact include:

• Growth Period: The 10-year period accounts for the time it takes
for the trees to reach full sequestration potential, including
adjustments for average tree mortality.
• Educational Programs: Trees for the Triangle, along with partners,
will conduct comprehensive educational programs for students,
teachers, school staff, and PTA members on proper tree planting,
care, and maintenance. These programs will ensure that the trees
planted at schools are well-maintained.
• Monitoring and Maintenance: Trees for the Triangle will monitor
the planted trees for three years. This includes ensuring proper
maintenance, watering, and addressing any tree mortality that
may occur.
• Sustainability: The trees will be native species, sourced locally in
Orange County, and selected for their suitability to the local
environment. With proper care and establishment within the first
three years, these trees are expected to become self-sustaining
and continue to sequester CO2 well beyond the initial 10-year
calculation period.
Docusign Envelope ID: D22675F9-86C0-429B-8CAD-74E02C6C68FC
