of environmental stewardship.

Our commitment to the community extends well beyond the planting phase.
We will conduct regular visits to each school over a three-year period to
monitor tree health, offer guidance on proper care, and address any
challenges that arise. These visits will include hands-on workshops and
training sessions for students, staff, and volunteers to ensure that the newly
planted trees thrive and continue to provide long-term benefits. By
maintaining an ongoing presence and fostering a strong partnership with the
community, TftT aims to empower residents to take ownership of the
project and ensure its success for years to come.
11. Please describe any other
aspect of your project
that is relevant to Social
Justice, Environmental
Justice and Racial Equity.
All people deserve a healthy environment, and our project is deeply rooted
in the principles of social justice, environmental justice, and racial equity,
with a strong focus on benefiting schools and students. By targeting
underserved communities, we address social justice by ensuring that
students in these areas, who often face disparities in access to green spaces,
receive the benefits of trees that provide shade, improve air quality, and
offer a healthier learning environment. This focus on environmental justice
directly enhances the well-being of students, who are particularly vulnerable
to the effects of urban heat islands and poor air quality.

Planting trees on school grounds goes beyond improving the physical
environment by also creating opportunities for environmental education,
fostering a generation of students who are more connected to nature and
empowered to advocate for sustainability in their communities. The trees
we plant will serve as living classrooms, offering hands-on learning
experiences that enrich teachers’ curriculums and inspire students to take
an active role in caring for their environment.

TftT is committed to upholding and continuously improving a culture of
equity, diversity, and inclusion within our operations and Board culture,
which directly informs the work we do in schools. By involving students,
teachers, and parents in the decision-making process, we ensure that the
project reflects the unique needs and values of each school community,
promoting a sense of ownership and pride in the transformed spaces.

For more detailed information, please refer to TftT’s Justice, Equity,
Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) statements available on our website:
https://www.treesforthetriangle.org/our-core-beliefs--treethos.html

Criterion 2 - Emissions Reduced
This criterion has a maximum score of 4 pts (out of a total of 26 pts).
Please see the Grant Project website for estimation tools and the Background and Information document for
information about technical assistance. Applicants are encouraged to ask for clarification and technical
assistance as early as possible and no later than the posted deadline for questions.
12. How many tons of
greenhouse gas emissions
will your project
reduce/avoid each year?
Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Reduction Calculation
Using the EPA Greenhouse Gas Equivalencies Calculator, the Shade for
Schools - Orange County program will have the following impact:

Docusign Envelope ID: D22675F9-86C0-429B-8CAD-74E02C6C68FC
