Integrate carbon neutrality goals with a <br /> focus on requiring business and commercial <br /> developments to prioritize clean energy, energy <br /> • sustainable practices to reduce <br /> carbon emissions and support a carbon-neutral <br /> Orange County will guide development and redevelopment in a way that <br /> prioritizes energy efficiency, reduces carbon emissions, and promotes <br /> the transition to renewable energy sources. <br /> The intent of this policy is to establish clear and actionable carbon neutrality targets for <br /> business and commercial developments within the Unified Development Ordinance, <br /> ensuring that new development and redevelopment opportunities reduce their carbon <br /> footprints.This policy aims to align with the recommendations of the Climate Action <br /> Plan. By encouraging clean energy adoption and implementing energy-efficient <br /> building practices,the policy seeks to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, lower energy <br /> consumption,and position Orange County as a leader in sustainability.This policy <br /> also aims to incentivize businesses to invest in green technologies, renewable energy <br /> sources,and environmentally friendly practices, ultimately contributing to the County's <br /> long-term sustainability and carbon neutrality goals. In coordination with the Climate <br /> Action Plan,objectives of this policy include: <br /> • Explore ways to encourage carbon neutral development standards. <br /> • Ensure energy efficiency in business and commercial operation. <br /> • Integration of sustainable transportation and mobility. <br /> • Incentivize clean energy investments. <br /> • Create carbon offset programs. <br /> • Monitor and report carbon emissions. <br /> 76 PUBLIC REVIEW DRAFT <br />
