62
EN-4.
development n - - •
environmental protections and conservation.
Orange County will conserve environmentally sensitive lands and
preserve rural or agricultural lands from suburban-style development,
directing more intensive development toward growth areas.
The intent of this policy is to balance Orange County's development and growth
pressures, its unique character and conditions, and the need to lessen climate impacts
and increase resilience to hazards. Objectives of this policy include-
• Promote sustainable development principles to meet our climate action plan goals
and objectives.
• Align and coordinate development decisions with the Working Lands and Open
Space Policies and Actions.
• Conserve and maintain environmental lands,as identified in the Environmental and
Wildlife Habitat map for ecosystem health and resilience, community benefits, and
the recreation opportunities they provide.
• Preserve rural and agricultural lands for economic and community benefits, historic
and cultural heritage, and the unique landscape they provide.
• Focus growth to strategic areas, in municipalities and/or identified growth
categories, such as Rural Conservation Neighborhoods, which offer holistic and
balanced access to services for the community, and thereby mitigate consumption
of land elsewhere in the county for housing development.
7 —
%
Eno River State Park
ORANGE COUNTY LAND USE PLAN 2050 59
