57
EE-3. Promote sustainable development
principles in Economic Development Areas
Orange County will support the utilization of sustainable development
principles in building and site design, multimodal access, decreasing
greenhouse gas emissions, and green infrastructure in Economic
Development Areas (EDAs).
The intent of this policy is to ensure that EDAs within Orange County utilize sustainable
development principles, thereby enhancing quality of life, reducing commute times, and
fostering a more integrated and resilient community. Objectives of this policy include:
• Promote or incentivize sustainable building designs that reduce energy, water
usage, and waste production of new businesses.
• Support reduction of commute times through better multimodal access between
Economic Development Areas and proximate affordable/workforce housing
developments.
• Decrease greenhouse gas emissions of commuting workers by providing daily
commercial service needs in close proximity.
• Building site designs that encourage on-site capture of stormwater through green
infrastructure and reduce exposure to flooding, erosion, and drainage issues, while
also providing open space amenities and passive recreation for workers.
• Promote the adaptive reuse of existing buildings and structures.
¢g K'
s.
BLACKWOOD
,
_ FARM PARK
4215 NC 86 Hillsborough,NC 27278
Ra a
.n
.v .
Blackwood Farm Park
54 PUBLIC REVIEW DRAFT
