Create an older <br /> adults • • • • age in <br /> place, ensuringthey have access to necessary <br /> resources, services, anda supportive • <br /> Orange County will aim to ensure that older residents, the county's <br /> fastest growing demographic population, have access to essential <br /> resources, services, and a supportive community that empowers them to <br /> remain engaged, healthy, and self-sufficient. <br /> The intent of this policy is to create a comprehensive approach to supporting <br /> older adults within the community by providing accessible housing, healthcare, <br /> transportation,and social services.This approach focuses on removing barriers to <br /> independence and ensuring that older adults can live in a safe,welcoming environment <br /> that promotes health,well-being,and social engagement. By aligning land use planning, <br /> public services,and community programs,this policy seeks to enhance the physical, <br /> emotional,and social aspects of aging,ensuring older adults can fully participate in the <br /> community. Objectives of this policy include: <br /> • Encourage age-friendly housing in municipalities in locations that are proximate to <br /> needed services and shopping. <br /> • Support the incorporation of policies in municipal land use plans to encourage <br /> opportunities for developing housing choices,such as missing middle housing,and <br /> for the preservation or production of housing that is deed restricted to maintain <br /> affordability. <br /> • Support the incorporation of policies in municipal land use plans to create mixed- <br /> use and walkable developments that can be served by public transportation, <br /> promote active forms of transportation such as biking and walking, reduce <br /> greenhouse gas emissions,and reduce transportation costs for residents. <br /> • Provide accessible transportation and mobility throughout Orange County to <br /> provide seniors with ways to travel to healthcare and social services appointments <br /> and shopping centers. <br /> • Provide for Rural Conservation Neighborhoods,which can provide for more <br /> housing options of varying densities,sizes,and types,while also preserving more <br /> open space and agricultural lands. <br /> • Collaborate with community programs and social services to encourage and <br /> create spaces for senior programs and community building, including denser <br /> housing arrangements,through incentivized inclusionary zoning regulations. <br /> 50 PUBLIC REVIEW DRAFT <br />
