The Human Services Advisory Commission reviewed the recorded proceedings of Forum 2003 <br />and considered the written participant evaluations, It has prepared the attached Final Report as <br />a reflection of both the progress made in Orange County, and the potential to be achieved, as <br />articulated throughout the day, <br />Actions proposed by the Human Services Advisory Commission for consideration by the <br />BOCC as follow up to Forum 2003 are shown on page 13 of the Final Report, and <br />summarized below: <br />ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY <br />Continue discussions towards the establishment of a "Social Justice Goal" for Orange County <br />Government. <br />HEALTH <br />Jain together with the Board of Health, Healthy Carolinians, and other community partners to <br />further address the minority health disparities documented in the Orange County Community <br />Health Assessment (February 2003). <br />EDUCATION <br />Press forward in finding durable solutions to eliminate disparities in facilities and resources that <br />may exist between the Orange County Schools and the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools, <br />The Co-Chairs of the Human Services Advisory Commission have requested to present the <br />Final Report to the Board of County Commissioners on this occasion, May 18, 2004, in <br />recognition of the Court's decision handed dawn on May 17, 1954, and in appreciation of the <br />Board's longstanding commitment to furthering equality of opportunity among all races within <br />Orange County. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact in receiving the Final Report on the Human <br />Services Issues Forum 2003 as information. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board receive the Final Report <br />as information and provide any feedback to the Human Services Advisory Commission, <br />
