15 <br />As a wrap up to the education panel, Ms. Schooes-Ross invited Mr. Sutton of the TUL <br />back to present several strategies for consideration. Those were: <br />Recognition and support for the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools in its hosting <br />the upcoming Annual Minority Student Achievement Network, an opportunity to <br />involve students, parents, and educators in assessing the achievement gap and <br />ways to develop cooperative methods for change. <br />Recommendation for the two school systems to convene a blue ribbon panel or <br />task in honor of Brown v. Board of Education to study the overall health of <br />education, pazticularly the status of African-Americans and the achievement gap. <br />The panel would also look at No Child Left Behind legislation, recruitment and <br />retention of minority teachers, and the suspension and drop out rates for minority <br />students. <br />
