Resolution Regarding an Air Permit Application Request from the University of North <br /> Carolina at Chapel Hill <br /> This item was added to the agenda at the beginning of the meeting. The Board approved a <br /> resolution providing comments on the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's application to <br /> the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality for an Air Permit modification. <br /> BACKGROUND: The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) currently holds a Title V <br /> air quality permit for its cogeneration facility to burn coal and natural gas in boilers to produce <br /> electricity and steam. UNC has applied for a modification of its air permit to allow for the <br /> combustion of engineered pelletized fuel in its facility in Chapel Hill. <br /> The attached draft resolution provides comments from Orange County to the North Carolina <br /> Department of Environmental Quality regarding UNC's air permit modification request. <br /> Chair Bedford introduced the item. <br /> Vice-Chair Hamilton read the first four paragraphs and the last eight paragraphs of the <br /> resolution due to the length of the resolution. <br /> ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> RESOLUTION REGARDING AN AIR PERMIT APPLICATION REQUEST FROM THE <br /> UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT CHAPEL HILL TO THE NORTH CAROLINA <br /> DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY <br /> WHEREAS, The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) currently holds a Title V air <br /> quality permit for its cogeneration facility to burn coal and natural gas in boilers to produce <br /> electricity and steam; and <br /> WHEREAS, UNC has applied for a modification of its air permit to allow for the combustion of <br /> engineered pelletized fuel in its facility at 575 West Cameron Avenue, Chapel Hill, which is within <br /> Orange County; and <br />
