23 <br /> 1 Commissioner Portie-Ascott asked if the SOHRAD team is finding out why people might <br /> 2 refuse shelter when approached. <br /> 3 Blake Rosser said yes, to varying degrees. <br /> 4 Danielle Butler said that the team continues to try to engage with individuals. <br /> 5 Commissioner Greene said it sounds like Danielle Butler believes that the team needs to <br /> 6 keep trying to engage because perhaps they aren't asking the right questions. <br /> 7 Danielle Butler said she knows of one individual who had to be worked with for seven <br /> 8 years before they would agree to try a housing program, because this person did not want to have <br /> 9 anything that could be taken away. She said the initial point of entry is the housing helpline, but <br /> 10 also completing a coordinated entry. She said the SOHRAD team is also trained on completing <br /> 11 the coordinated entry. She said they will also be training Rapid Rehousing staff on coordinated <br /> 12 entry. <br /> 13 Commissioner Portie-Ascott said that she recalled that those who remain unsheltered are <br /> 14 black men. <br /> 15 Blake Rosser said approximately 60-70% of people remaining unsheltered are black men. <br /> 16 Commissioner Portie-Ascott asked what the demographic information is for the people on <br /> 17 the SOHRAD team. <br /> 18 Danielle Butler said they have the following: 2 African American males, 1 Caucasian male, <br /> 19 and 1 Hispanic female. <br /> 20 <br /> 21 Slide #31 <br /> OCPEH <br /> SOAR. • - ! • . <br /> national program that assists eligible adults <br /> experiencingexperiencing or at risk of homelessness to apply for <br /> SSI/SSDI disability benefits.
