BACKGROUND: Far the past five years, Brooks Contracting of Goldston, North Carolina has provided food waste collection and composting services to Orange Community Recycling, Brooks provides storage carts, collects food waste, and composts it at its facility in Chatham County. UNC -Chapel Hill collects and delivers animal bedding to Brooks contracting far composting, This contract represents a renewal of the existing agreement to collect from establishments willing to separate food waste, including UNC-Chapel Hill locations, and adds the animal bedding collection to the agreement, FINANCIAL IMPACT: The cost of this contract is estimated at $157,000 annually (Food waste $117,000 and animal bedding $40,000), It is projected that Brooks Contracting will collect up to 1,250 tons of food at $77.25 /ton, Any amount over that tannage would cost an additional $56,65 per ton, In additicn, it is projected that 400 tons of animal bedding will be collected at $40 per site per pickup. RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve the service contract renewal with Brooks to collect and compost food waste and authorize the Chair to sign the agreement, subject to final review by Staff and the County Attorney.
