1941
7. Please describe any ways in which low-
income or marginalized
communities/households were engaged in
the creation of this project proposal.
USS’s program continues to improve and
expand, based on our past experiences and
feedback from those who have participated
in our trainings and installations in Durham,
Wake and Orange Counties —most recently
Braggtown community members in Durham,
the Weaver Community in Carrboro, and
Millbrook Highschool in Raleigh. Since 2023,
USS has partnered with the Carrboro
Stormwater Manager of Public Works, which
has assisted us with Education and Outreach
events to connect with underserved property
owners in Bolin Creek and get them signed
up to receive free USS stormwater
management installations. The City of
Raleigh Stormwater Engineering Services is
also helping USS connect with low-income or
marginalized communities requiring our
green infrastructure services.
8. Please describe any potential negative
side effects of the project and describe
the steps you are taking/will take to
eliminate or minimize these impacts to
any low-income or marginalized
communities/households.
The only negative side effect we foresee is a
lack of long-term maintenance on the best-
management stormwater systems that USS
teachers and students install. To ensure
long-term maintenance, our contract requires
that the property owner commit to
maintaining their systems for 5 years. USS
will continue to apply for funding to pay USS
teachers and their students to perform site
checks and provide maintenance services
(weeding, replanting, etc.) every 1-2 years
for USS installations on low-income
properties, reducing homeowner
maintenance costs to zero.
Docusign Envelope ID: 7E7D300B-F83F-4917-A8A3-638B79C7D566
