Our focus was on migitating opioid risk by <br /> concentrating on non-opioid or non-drug therapies. <br /> Past Service on Orange County Advisory Boards: <br /> Past: Orange County Board of Health, and served as Chair for four years. <br /> Boards/Commissions applied for: <br /> Opioid Advisory Committee <br /> Please explain how your background, education and experience is relevant to this board <br /> Directed the Chronic Pain Program in the UNC School of Medicine for 23 years, with an <br /> emphasis on mitigating opioid use through use of non-opioid and non-drug modalities for <br /> management. I also teach this subject in the Schools of Pharmacy, Nursing, and Medicine on <br /> an ongoing basis. <br /> Please explain your reasons for wanting to serve on this board <br /> There is far more work that can be done in the community to minimize risks than can be <br /> achieved in a clinic setting. <br /> How would your particpation on this board contribute to the diversity of viewpoints? <br /> I've seen the negative impact on individuals in the community when used inappropriately, and I <br /> ve also seen the benefits that can be accrued when used in a responsible manner, for pain or for <br /> OUD (i.e., buprenorphine or even methadone in the past). <br /> Do you have any personal or business interest(s) that could create a conflict of interest <br /> (either real or perceived) if you are appointed to this board? <br /> Board of Health <br /> Please explain how your background, education and experience is relevant to this board <br />
