I witnessed firsthand <br /> the emergence of street artist Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat, (French artist) Invader, & <br /> Banksy leaving their artistic mark on the city. Having worked at American Express, often in teh <br /> spirit of goof corporate citizenship Amex would sponsor art centric events and festivals. During <br /> my tenure I worked on the support team to bring to fruition the Tribeca Film Festival as a post <br /> 9/11 revitalization effort to revitalize lower Manhattan; American Express auction of Annie <br /> Leibovitz s iconic portraits which included Demi Moore (Vanity cover), Whoopi Goldberg ina milk <br /> filled bath tub, Queen Elizabeth 11, etc.; Rene Soto revered NY underground tattoo artist who <br /> has left his imprint on Hip Hop icons like Tupac, Cypress Hills, Biggie Smalls, Boo Yaa Tribe, & <br /> a host of other urban music artist. <br /> Please explain your reasons for wanting to serve on this board <br /> NC has a rich history of artist that trace their roots back to our state ranging from Nina Simone, <br /> John Coltrane, Roberta Flack, Ava Gardner, Charlie Poole, teh Blue SKY Boys, Doc Watson, <br /> Earl Scruggs, all formidable contributors to their respective genres and natives of NC. And we <br /> overlooked such contemporaries like J. Cole, Fantasia, Anthony Hamilton, Angie Stone, <br /> Sunshine Anderson, Kelsey Lu, Nat Jones who helped shape James Brown unique funk music <br /> with his slick sax playing, a distinct trademark in James Brown sound, and the list goes on! Yet <br /> the world hardly knows they re all products of the Tar Heel state!
