A. J. Smith, Sr., Chairman of the Orange County A. B. C. Board, along with D. D. Carroll and <br />Giles Long were present to present the nine-month audit for the A. B. C. System. Chairman Smith also <br />presented the following revenue report beginning with the establishment of A. B. C. Stores in Orange <br />County: <br />Cash turned over to Orange County by the A B C Board: <br />June 30, 1960 $10,000.00 <br />June 30, 1961 100,000.00 <br />June 30, 1962 200,000.00 <br />June 30, 1963 250,000.00 <br />June 30, 1964 232,200.00 <br />May 1965 231,000.00 <br />$ 1,023,200.00 <br />The Board agreed to meet Monday, May 10, at 9:30 A.M., and on Friday, May 14, at 1:00 p.m. <br />for the purpose of hearing tax assessment appeals submitted by Orange County citizens. <br />W. E. Thompson, member and representative of the Piedmont Crescent 2,000 Commission, appeared <br />to inform the Board concerning the work of this Commission. He spoke at length citing the needs of <br />this area and how it could benefit from the proposed plans of said Commission. He recuested that <br />Orange Comity consider the possibility of becoming a member of the Piedmont Crescent 2,000 Commis- <br />sion. The county's membership would be based on a 2¢ per citizen basis. This would entitle the <br />county to have access to information and assistance in the planning and development areas. Mr. <br />Thompson stated that he would like this item considered for the 1965--1966 budget year. This matter <br />was taken under advisement. <br />Chairman Bennett informed the Board of a meeting which he had had with Dr. R. J. Murphy of <br />the Historic Hillsborough Commission and Dr. Charles Blake of the Hillsborough Historical Society. <br />He presented a diagram which was entitled "A Suggested Development of Southeast Hillsborough." This <br />diagram concerned the area located on East Margaret Lane, It suggested a plan of development and <br />growth which would group all of the governmental agencies and departments of Orange County in this <br />area. Discussion ensued concerning said suggested development, and the County Administrator was <br />authorized to proceed with the necessary inquiries as to the purchase price of land adjoining county <br />property in this area. <br />Jurors were drawn for the following terms of court: <br />June 14 Civil Term 42 names <br />June 21 Civil Term 42 names <br />August Criminal Term 72 names <br />There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting.was adjourned with <br />plans to meet at 9:30 A.M., Monday, May 10. <br />Harley D.
