A. J. Smith, Sr., Chairman of the Orange County A. B. C. Board, along with D. D. Carroll and Giles Long were present to present the nine-month audit for the A. B. C. System. Chairman Smith also presented the following revenue report beginning with the establishment of A. B. C. Stores in Orange County: Cash turned over to Orange County by the A B C Board: June 30, 1960 $10,000.00 June 30, 1961 100,000.00 June 30, 1962 200,000.00 June 30, 1963 250,000.00 June 30, 1964 232,200.00 May 1965 231,000.00 $ 1,023,200.00 The Board agreed to meet Monday, May 10, at 9:30 A.M., and on Friday, May 14, at 1:00 p.m. for the purpose of hearing tax assessment appeals submitted by Orange County citizens. W. E. Thompson, member and representative of the Piedmont Crescent 2,000 Commission, appeared to inform the Board concerning the work of this Commission. He spoke at length citing the needs of this area and how it could benefit from the proposed plans of said Commission. He recuested that Orange Comity consider the possibility of becoming a member of the Piedmont Crescent 2,000 Commis- sion. The county's membership would be based on a 2¢ per citizen basis. This would entitle the county to have access to information and assistance in the planning and development areas. Mr. Thompson stated that he would like this item considered for the 1965--1966 budget year. This matter was taken under advisement. Chairman Bennett informed the Board of a meeting which he had had with Dr. R. J. Murphy of the Historic Hillsborough Commission and Dr. Charles Blake of the Hillsborough Historical Society. He presented a diagram which was entitled "A Suggested Development of Southeast Hillsborough." This diagram concerned the area located on East Margaret Lane, It suggested a plan of development and growth which would group all of the governmental agencies and departments of Orange County in this area. Discussion ensued concerning said suggested development, and the County Administrator was authorized to proceed with the necessary inquiries as to the purchase price of land adjoining county property in this area. Jurors were drawn for the following terms of court: June 14 Civil Term 42 names June 21 Civil Term 42 names August Criminal Term 72 names There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting.was adjourned with plans to meet at 9:30 A.M., Monday, May 10.
