174
Phase I Environmental Site Assessment
5824 Morrow Mill Road
Chapel Hill, North Carolina E S&ME Project No. 22580189
Bedrock
According to the Geologic Map of North Carolina dated 1985, the subject property is primarily located over
metamorphosed dacitic to rhyolitic flows and tuffs from the Late Proterozoic-Cambrian period. The northern
portion of the subject property is underlain by metamorphosed argillite, mudstone, volcanic sandstone,
conglomerate and volcanic rock from the Late Proterozoic-Cambrian period.
Groundwater
The source of groundwater in Orange County is precipitation in the form of snow and rain. A portion of the
precipitation infiltrates into the ground and moves under the influence of gravity to the water table. Alamance
County is an uplifted plain moderately dissected by streams. Inter-stream areas are generally low, and most of the
larger streams are bordered by wide flood plains.
Based upon a review of topographic maps, groundwater on the property is anticipated to generally flow to the
northwest towards Back Creek.
4.4 Historical Use Information on the Subject Property
S&ME reviewed historical use information from EDR as part of this Phase I assessment. The following documents
were reviewed:
Aerial photographs for the years 1938, 1950, 1955, 1961, 1964, 1973, 1975, 1983, 1993, 1998, 2006, 2009,
2012, and 2016.
Topographic maps for the years 1968, 1981, 2013, 2016, and 2019.
Historical Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps were not available for the subject property.
Historical city directory coverage was not available for the subject property or surrounding area.
Historical information is included in Appendix III.
Table 4-2—Historical Use Summary Table (Onsite)
Listing/Observed
this Listing
The southern portion of the subject property is primarily wooded with two
agricultural fields. The center and northern portions of the subject 1938, 1950, 1955,
EDR Aerial
property are primarily agricultural fields. Buildings can be seen near the 1961, 1964, 1973,
Photograph
western property boundary as well as one building in the central portion 1975, 1983
of the subject property.
The agricultural fields throughout the subject property have been
EDR Aerial
abandoned and are now overgrown. It appears as though the property 1993, 1998,2006
Photograph
was logged during this time by method of select cut.
August 25, 2022 9
