145
Stream and Wetland Evaluation
Before we completed an in-field evaluation AWT used GIS to develop a Digital
Elevation Model (DEM) of the site. The DEM is a map that clearly defines change in
elevation. This change in elevation exposed peaks and valleys supplying sample locations
for us to ground truth.
Our infield steam evaluation was completed according to DWQ method for identifying
streams. This includes completing a DWQ Stream Identification Form where each feature
is scored based on geomorphology, hydrology, and biological characteristics. The
resulting score defines a feature as Ephemeral, Intermittent, or Perennial. Also, each
feature was GPS found, flagged, and photographed.
AWT was prepared to evaluate wetlands however, we did not see any.
Findings
Several maps were created to show our findings. Attachment 2 includes a DEM
specifying our evaluation areas, stream designations, GPS points, and scoresheet IDs
scores. Included is an aerial map showing the same details.
All DWQ stream forms and pictures taken throughout the evaluation can be seen in
Attachment 3
Findings are Not Final
As planning for this land progresses and it is found that a road crossing or an impact (to a
stream feature) is necessary you must contact NC DWQ for a final confirmation of
AWT's work. Moreover, the US Army Corps of Engineers maybe required to come to
this site and confirm AWT's evaluation too. This property is in the Jordan Lake
Watershed. Orange County and NC have special buffer rules for this area. AWT's
findings could change based on a review by Orange Co.,NC DWQ or US Army Corps of
Engineers. As a result, AWT's findings are not considered final at this time.
This report holds all information required by regulatory agencies and fulfills their
requirements for an initial stream and wetland evaluation.
AWT Qualifications
AWT possess the necessary qualifications to perform this evaluation. Julie Davidson was
trained by Chatham County, DWQ, and the US Army Corps of Engineers to classify
streams and wetlands for regulatory purposes.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call Julie Davidson at 919.367.6315
