Announcements, Petitions and Comments by Board Members <br /> Commissioner Portie-Ascott said she is honored to continue serving the people of Orange <br /> County. She said this is a special moment for her and appreciates all of those who have inspired <br /> and supported her along the way. She said their belief in her reminds her why service is so <br /> important. She said they have taught her the values of perseverance and compassion. She <br /> thanked her campaign manager and her team of volunteers and donors. She said she will <br /> continue to work for the continued shared vision for Orange County. <br /> Commissioner McKee congratulated Commissioner Carter on her election to the Board <br /> and to those commissioners who were re-elected. He thanked members of the community that <br /> do service and do not get a lot of credit or recognition. He said at disaster sites, there are <br /> oftentimes volunteers wearing hats with logos. He said the Caldwell Hunting Club goes above <br /> and beyond to help with disaster recovery. He said they hold an annual hunt to serve Wounded <br /> Warriors, and this year focused on the Vietnam Veterans. He said they have been at hurricane <br /> sites in the mountains and down east and they continue to keep this an ongoing effort. He said <br /> he wanted to recognize them because he wanted to make sure people knew they exist. <br /> Commissioner Greene congratulated Commissioner Carter on her election and other <br /> commissioners on their re-election. <br /> Chair Bedford asked the Board to read a piece on Abolition Day. <br /> The Board members read the following in turn: <br />
