Attachment 3 <br /> 1 <br /> 1 DRAFT MINUTES <br /> 2 ORANGE COUNTY <br /> 3 BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> 4 BUSINESS MEETING <br /> 5 December 10, 2024 <br /> 6 7:00 p.m. <br /> 7 <br /> 8 The Orange County Board of Commissioners met for a Business Meeting on Tuesday, <br /> 9 December 10, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. at the Southern Human Services Center in Hillsborough, NC. <br /> 10 <br /> 11 COUNTY COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chair Jamezetta Bedford, Vice-Chair Jean Hamilton, <br /> 12 and Commissioners Marilyn Carter, Amy Fowler, Sally Greene, Earl McKee (arrived at 7:05 <br /> 13 p.m.), and Phyllis Portie-Ascott <br /> 14 COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: None. <br /> 15 COUNTY ATTORNEYS PRESENT: John Roberts <br /> 16 COUNTY STAFF PRESENT: County Manager Travis Myren, Interim Deputy County Manager <br /> 17 Caitlin Fenhagen, and Clerk to the Board Laura Jensen. (All other staff members will be <br /> 18 identified appropriately below) <br /> 19 <br /> 20 Chair Bedford called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. All commissioners were present, <br /> 21 except for Commissioner McKee. <br /> 22 <br /> 23 1. Additions or Changes to the Agenda <br /> 24 There were no changes to the agenda. <br /> 25 <br /> 26 2. Public Comments (Limited to One Hour) <br /> 27 a. Matters not on the Printed Agenda <br /> 28 Chair Bedford dispensed with reading the public charge. <br /> 29 <br /> 30 NC Representative Ren6e Price discussed the recent installation of a bench along the <br /> 31 River Walk in Hillsborough in memory of John "Blackfeather" Jeffries, which was previously <br /> 32 approved by the Board of Commissioners. She thanked the Orange County staff who were <br /> 33 involved in installing and later helping with the unveiling ceremony. She said the event was <br /> 34 really community oriented. <br /> 35 <br /> 36 b. Matters on the Printed Agenda <br /> 37 (These matters will be considered when the Board addresses that item on the agenda below.) <br /> 38 <br /> 39 3. Announcements, Petitions and Comments by Board Members <br /> 40 Commissioner Portie-Ascott said she attended the Cooperative Extension Leadership <br /> 41 meeting. She said that this year for the first time, Cooperative Extension hosted Kids Voting <br /> 42 and had over 747 students participated. She said that they will pack bags for community <br /> 43 members in Western NC on December 14th and are accepting volunteers. She said that on <br /> 44 January 13th at 5:30pm, the livestock agent will meet with farmers to hear their needs. She said <br /> 45 the Ag Summit is on February 10th. She said she attended the RTP Regional Partnership <br /> 46 meeting, and she expressed gratitude for Steve Brantley's guidance during the meeting. She <br /> 47 said they continue to work toward a Bio-Economy in NC. She said that 18,000 veterans are <br /> 48 entering the workforce annually, they are looking into recruiting veterans. She also attended the <br /> 49 "From Campaigning from Governing" class and will be attending the Essentials of Government <br /> 50 class. She also participated in the holiday parage. <br /> 51 <br />
