She said the project across <br /> 3 from Southern Village on 15-501 has 120 acres and that the developer is working with the <br /> 4 Triangle Land Conservancy to make 80 acres an environmental park. She said they are looking <br /> 5 for funding to preserve the land. She said it could be a model for working with developers on <br /> 6 how to conserve land. She said she attended the ABC Board meeting, and they were thankful <br /> 7 for the Board of Commissioners approving the changes they requested to salaries and stipends. <br /> 8 Commissioner Hamilton said she attended an event honoring Dr. Harold Russell through <br /> 9 the Chapel Hill Historical Society. She highlighted his accomplishments and service to the <br /> 10 community. She said on November 11th she attended the Orange County Veterans Day <br /> 11 program. She said on November 14th she also attended the Justice United meeting. She said <br /> 12 that she attended an Advisory Board on Aging meeting. She said they reviewed the legislative <br /> 13 priorities of seniors, and she will be bringing those back to the commissioners for their <br /> 14 consideration. <br /> 15 Commissioner McKee said he attended a Boy Scout troop meeting the previous day. He <br /> 16 said they asked good questions about being a commissioner and they had a good conversation <br /> 17 about being engaged in the community. He said he received a call from the Orange County <br /> 18 Board of Education, and they said they were unaware that the Orange County Board of <br /> 19 Commissioners previously had a discussion of how the bond funding could be spent. He said <br /> 20 the superintendent only received the draft yesterday and that communication needs to be <br /> 21 improved because they need to be in close collaboration. <br /> 22 Chair Bedford said that it also sounds like recent school collaboration notes needed to <br /> 23 be shared as well. <br /> 24 <br /> 25 4. Resolution of Commendation for Commissioner Anna Richards <br /> 27 The Board approved a resolution commending Commissioner Anna Richards for her service to <br /> 28 Orange County. <br /> 29 <br /> 30 BACKGROUND: After 3 years of service as a member of the Orange County Board of <br /> 31 Commissioners, Commissioner Anna Richards will step down from her position on December 2, <br /> 32 2024.
