Gensler | 30 Gensler | 31
Southwest Partnership
Community Engagement & Master Plan
Baltimore, MD
Southwest Baltimore has been disinvested in for a long period
of time: block-busting. red-lining, urban renewal, white flight,
displacement. These seven neighborhoods have rallied together to
change the narrative. They’re dreamers, but they’re extraordinarily
driven. Gensler was hired to help connect dots, think beyond
borders, and develop a master plan that tells a compelling story.
700 acres
Completed 2014
Services Provided
Visioning
Master Planning
Community Engagement
Awards
2015 AIA Baltimore, Design
Award, Honorable
Mention
The Gensler team held dozens of
work sessions with subcommittee
leaders to distill key issues, ideate
around design solutions, and
bolster findings with qualitative and
quantitative data. Design synthesis
and analysis was reported back to
the stakeholder groups in several
different formats.
Each presentation allowed us to
connect dots, pitch design concepts,
and propel ideas forward. Public
design workshops in tandem with
smaller stakeholder meetings pulled
neighborhoods, anchor institutions,
future commercial tenants and
potential investors together.
7 neighborhoods, infinite
possibilities. Our process uncovered
commonalities, revealed unique
history and characteristics, and
defined the inherent differences
between the neighborhoods.
f.OCNC Experience & Qualificationsf.OCNC Experience & Qualifications
Blur boundaries and stitch together. We challenged perceived
and real boundaries, discovered potential connecting elements,
then built upon neighborhood strengths by leveraging social
capital.
Big ideas. Research and engagement informed the development
of 4 focal areas. These urban design interventions will shape the
future of Southwest as a whole.
Docusign Envelope ID: EA417244-1B08-4F71-884E-045B78625FB7
