DRAFT
probably not too interested in this. This is about a county land-use plan, blah, blah, blah, and
they're like, okay, thank you, cool map. And they move on.

Chris Johnston: Right.

Tom Altieri: Typically. Maybe take a piece of candy. But if they do live in Orange County, then we engage
with them differently and encourage them to take the survey.

Chris Johnston: Perfect.

Tom Altieri: The online survey hasn't opened yet. It doesn't open until September 18th. And since we've
started attending some events already,we were taking paper copies, and when the survey opens,
we'll just manually input those. And we did well. We got over 40 surveys at the Latino Americano
Festival. Half of them were completed in Spanish. We did have an interpreter there with us for
about half of the festival. Jack was there too, speaks a little bit of Spanish. And all of the
materials were available in Spanish there. And our relationship there was with El Centro Hispano,
and they've been very helpful.

Chris Johnston: And that was going to be my final question, and I apologize,Whitney; sorry about taking up all the
time. In regard to the community engagement meetings, is there going to be any kind of childcare
or multilingual capabilities for those meetings for people who might need those services?

Tom Altieri: So,for the targeted meetings El Centro Hispano, for example, they'll have their interpreters on
site. That's just part of the arrangement that we've made with them. And then for these two
workshop meetings, for example, that are more general public,we've advertised that if you need
those services to let us know,we'll provide them. So that's how that's been handled. As far as
daycare aspects and that type of thing,we haven't gotten into that.

Chris Johnston: That's perfect. I just wanted to clarify on that.

Adam Beeman: Whitney.

Whitney Watson: Thank you. So, I am really interested in how the consultants and how the planning staff have
been engaging with the leadership from the various municipalities involved and whether it's at the
planning department level or if it's at the council level. Because that's really different folks.

Tom Altieri: You'll recall, during Community Engagement Window 1,the consultant had stakeholder
interviews, and there were county elected officials, or Board of County Commissioners and
planning directors from the municipalities. At that point in time, there was not interviews of
city/town elected officials. There was an attempt at a survey that did go out. Survey from
Community Engagement Window 1 that was distributed to all of the elected officials of the
municipalities, encouraging them to participate and return a survey. I believe that went via
manager to managers to elected officials, and the response rate was quite low, although we did
get some response.

Whitney Watson: Well, to be very transparent about it,when I look at the alternative maps and see the projected
changes and development for the western edge of Orange County, I'm very concerned, and I'm
wondering if the Mebane elected officials are looking at this at all or thinking that they are perhaps
going to continue to go about their merry way and do what they want.

Tom Altieri: I can't speak to that. We are certainly considering the municipal plans, and they are kind of built
into the alternatives. We do know urban services boundaries. Town of Hillsborough has recently
updated its urban services area through its comprehensive sustainability plan, so we're
synchronizing with the outer boundary of that boundary. And also, Mebane has recently updated
its urban services boundary and has just engaged with a consultant to update its land-use plan to
